Like in all pyrometallurgical processes, slag is an issue, and the situation is no different for Secondary lead smelters. There is very little data and information in the public domain. Moreover, that which is available is often written by third parties, lacking an understanding of this complex industry. There is a misconception in battery recycling that it’s a simple process of ‘melting down’ the used batteries, but this is far from the truth. The metallurgical reactions in a secondary smelter are more complex than in a primary smelter.
Furthermore, there are more issues with the slag than just its production. Global operations face many challenges, including environmental issues and differing government regulations right through to the sampling and analysis of the waste.
The 8ISLC Round Table aims to gather industry experts to discuss these and other issues with a view to formulating a structure whereby we can bring the industry’s knowledge and experience together to solve some of the problems associated with this waste.
As we feel that this session is critical to the Secondary industry, the session will be live-streamed to those in the industry who cannot attend. The session will start at 15:30 Bangkok time and run for around 90 minutes. (Equivalent world times: 18:30 Melbourne, 10:30 Paris, 9:30 London, 4:30 New York, 1:30 Los Angeles)
